“Local men had all seemed to know Shirley’s mother’s name, and smirked when they said it … but that was a long time ago, and Shirley took the view that the past disintegrated if you never mentioned it. She refused to remember.”

The Casual Vacancy by J.K. Rowling
I’ve only finished part one but I love the characterization like everyone is awful but intriguing in how self-aware they are? for example this quote where shirley chooses which parts of her past will be (/won’t be) part of her or fats trying to weed out the personality traits that are learned or barry’s brother saying ‘I think it’s fair to say that barry always knew his own mind’ at the funeral. gr8 thx jo

I don’t know anything about music and I only understand little about families but I like stories about both like how my grandfather, who used to work all the time, would turn on the radio on thursdays and listen to the music program that he liked or you know I’m really tone deaf but my dad is even worse and my uncle found some ancestor’s report card where all of the grades were good except for the one in music and I find that funny because you have to find humor in the restrictions of heredity etc etc

I’m not a private person at all but since this concerns someone else as well I feel like I shouldn’t say though there’s a much bigger chance that I’ll reply if you go off anon?

I’ve been rewatching veronica mars this week and it made me realize how much of my music taste used to be just songs from that show
